One of the goals for Wells Demonstration Forest is to show how powerful and effective a team can be when they are organized around the goal of establishing a sustainable working forest that includes wildlife habitat, stream habitat and multi-species tree habitats where a variety of commercial timber can be grown and harvest in a sustainable way so to maximize the productivity of the forest, while also persevering the forest for traditional uses such as hunting and fishing.   We have established a team including the Landowner, a Forester and a Logger who are all organized around the idea of conducting sustainable forestry that also allows for plenty of research and eduction.

We would like to provide a place where other small woodlot owners can learn about how to choose options for their woodlot and how to communicate with their forester, logger, and helpful government entities.  In addition, we would love to encourage University of Maine students and researchers to consider our forest as a possible research area.
